King Sombra is a unicorn who's heart is black as night and once took over the Crystal Empire. He is the father of The Nightmare Family. And the Main Leader of The Nightmare Empire. And he is the True Main Antagonist of the whole series.
Backstory[]
During the battle, the Nightmare Cruiser " " had a barrage of starfighters and dragons bombard it with heavy fire, while Sombra dueled against King Solar Flare and Valka in the ship
Eventually, the bombard had done so much damage to the ship it came plummeting down the surface before crashing onto land in a massive fireball, taking Sombra with it.

Hidden in the Shadows:[]
However, as it turns out, Sombra never died in the Battle but had survived. For once the heroes forces had left, Sombra's personal Shadow Troopers had found him in his stasis shield he cast before the roof came crashing down on him.
When he finally awoke, they brought him up to speed on what had transpired, including the rise of Ernie's rein of terror. This news angered Sombra to a great rage, he sought out to find the Rooster and his apprentice, Darth Manacore. However, it suddenly dawned upon him, instead of blindly attacking Ernie and the Chicken Empire, he'd let The Daring Dragon Riders, as well as all surviving Jedi within the New Republic destroy it instead, and use this to build himself a new fleet, one of which that would crush all his enemies in one blow.
So, all the while our heroes fought against The Chicken Empire and new Villain factions that rose in place of the fallen ones. King Sombra would be kept up to date on it from his spies that were among them. Including one Shadow Unicorn that was in The Chicken Empire. But there were times he was tempted to head in and kill Ernie but held back, using the growing anger to use for his big moment.
The Days became weeks, and months into years, Sombra stayed in his new Capital Ship " " preparing for his big break.

But soon enough, his spy informed him of the Death of Ernie and Darth Manacore, as Sombra now knew this was the moment he long awaited for.
Personality[]
Compared to other villains on the show, King Sombra's personality is not too elaborated on. Instead, he is little more than a dark, looming menace for most of the episode. He has very few speaking lines, some of then half-incoherent, and is a very mysterious character, whose backstory is limited to the fact that he enslaved the crystal ponies. The source of his dark powers and his motivations remain an enigma. He is however shown to be extremely cruel, fierce and sadistic, viewing crystal ponies as nothing more than his slaves, using fear on them.
Sombra appears to be very intelligent, as he seemingly thought ahead of his enemies and placed a curse upon the empire to disappear if he gets defeated, and he cleverly booby-trapped the way to the Crystal Heart. He also took advantage of the Chicken Empire's Rein of Terror to get himself a new Fleet built so that once it fell, he would step in and crush all those who opposed him in one blow.
And he knows every skill used by Sith Lords from the Old Republic's fall far in the past.
King Sombra's reputation as a Dark Lord was well known throughout the galaxy, not just by the Equestrians, but all, Jedi, Sith, and even officers of the Galactic Empire. As the mere mention of his name would bring fear into them.
As showcased when Grand Admiral Thrawn learned Umbrina Shadow was King Sombra's daughter, he dared not to cross paths with her, out of fear of what kind of prowess she possesses.

Skills and Abilities[]
King Sombra appears in the show as a being of pure darkness. Due to this, he appears to be virtually impossible to damage via targeted magic, easily dodging Shining Armor's magic beam. However, he cannot penetrate some magical barriers, as he was unable to touch the Princess Cadance's field of love magic without getting harmed. His dark form can spread to immense distances, to the point that he can surround the Crystal Empire all by himself. He can also sink the ground and travel this way, leaving a trail of sharp crystals in his path.
Celestia states that she and Luna were the ones responsible for turning Sombra into shadow. This may imply that, albeit formidable in his present state, he could be even more powerful in his true pony form.
King Sombra's main power seems to be creating dark, jagged crystals. Those can serve as sharp weapons or imprison his enemies. If he engulfs a unicorn pony in his darkness, he can cover their horn with crystal, blocking off their magical abilities.
King Sombra's unicorn magic is unlike any other previously seen on the show. It is inferred by Celestia to be dark magic, powered by hatred and fear. The glow associated with it is a toxic purple bubbling. Though it can be cast by others, Sombra seems to be the main practitioner of it. It is affiliated with corruption, able to taint the Crystal Empire in a matter of minutes. In addition to creating dark crystals, this magic can also be used to show one an illusion of one's greatest fear, or even counter teleportation magic.
King Sombra is also one of the most powerful Dark Lords of the Sith all around, one of which that strikes fear into other Sith.
